The Best Time to Visit Cabo San Lucas

The Best Time to Visit Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located on the southern tip of Baja and is known for its luxe yet laid-back atmosphere. Cabo weather is ideal for travelers who want to spend their vacations sunning themselves on the sand, as this destination is situated in what could be called the dry tropics. Rain is scarce here, and the weather is sunny and relatively mild for most of the year. If that sounds like paradise, that’s because Cabo is about as close to it as you can get! But when is the best time to visit Cabo San Lucas?

The best time to visit Baja California Sur depends mainly on what you plan to do while you’re here.

The best time to visit Cabo is from May to June when the wintertime crowds have gone home and the summertime storms have yet to hit. October and November are also excellent months for a vacation.

BCS is one of the best places in Mexico to see whales. If you want to watch humpback whales breaching close to your boat or see grey whales with their babies while standing right offshore, you’ll want to visit between December and April, with the best chances of seeing them being from January to March.

However, this also happens to be the coolest time of year in Baja California Sur. You can expect daily temperatures to be between 16-27℃ or 62℉ and 80℉.

Winter and Spring are also when the wind is pretty strong here, which is excellent if you like windsurfing in Los Barriles or La Ventana, but not so great if you want to lay on a sandy beach with a picnic.

Baja California Sur is quite an arid climate, and even when it is hot in March, April and May, it is incredibly dry, so you don’t have to struggle with the humidity.

However, from June until September, the heat can get quite extreme, and the humidity can make it feel muggy and hotter than it is. The temperatures at that time of year are between 26 – 37℃ or 80 – 100℉.

Expect a little rain to fall when you visit Cabo in the summer months, and know the chance you may see a hurricane is slightly higher.

There are some festivals and events you may want to know about as you plan your travels to Baja California Sur in order not to miss them (or avoid the crowds during these times).

  • Lord of the Wind

An annual kiteboarding tournament in January that fills the small beach town of Los Barriles with adventure sport lovers.

  • Spring Break

Thousands of other college students arrive in Cabo every March for an unmissable Spring Break experience packed with sun-soaked parties, world-class performances, and breathtaking excursions along the Baja coast.

  • Bisbee’s Fishing Tournament

Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments have been taking place in the Los Cabos region of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico for over 30 years. This is the richest fishing tournament in the world and takes place in Los Cabos each year in October.

  • Baja 1000

The Baja 1000 is an annual Mexican off-road motorsport race held on the Baja California Peninsula. It is one of the most prestigious off-road races in the world, attracting competitors from all over the world in an off-road race from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas, which usually takes place in mid-November each year.

Now, after I have said all that, please know that the weather here in Cabo is almost always great! If you plan a vacation to Cabo, you can rest assured that the weather here will be nice!
